FAQ

⇢ Who is behind Sur Ton Mur ?

Sur Ton Mur is a trio passionate about illustration, based in Montreal, Quebec.

✏ Sam, the carpenter's pencil : robust and methodical, he takes care, with finesse, of our collection's printings' quality and our operation's running.

Élisabeth, the bicolour's pencil : double hatted and multifunctional, she is especially attentive to the artists and clients.

⇢ Explain some of the terms used on your website : – what is a giclée print, what is a limited edition print, and what does «archival quality» really mean?

A giclée print is a high quality digital reproduction of an original artist artwork.

Giclée printing uses ink jet technology, similar to a home printer, but with a remarkably higher quality. Its numerous fine print heads produce an extended colour's range that allows it to reach a certain level of details and depth that ensures an exceptional quality. Artists consider it as a true artistic medium.

Sur Ton Mur is an authorized representative by the artists collaborators to print exclusive series, at affordable price. Each giclée print sold at Sur Ton Mur come with an authenticity certificate. The giclée print is a very good way to start or complete your art collection!

Most of our prints are limited editions, which means that the artist has chosen to print only a certain number. Once a limited edition print run is sold out, it will not be reprinted (in most cases!). It allows us to frequently add new artwork and renew our collection. We will, progressively, add new available prints when others will be sold out or soon to be.

Archival quality refers to the standard of production of a piece of artwork. Non-archival quality posters become brittle and faded over time, especially if they’re in contact with direct sunlight. At Sur Ton Mur, our archival quality digital prints are printed on acid free and lignin free* fine art paper, with light fast high quality pigmented inks to last as long as possible, as beautifully as possible.

*Extremely sensitive to oxidation, this substance is the main cause of paper's acidification and discoloration. Eliminating lignin allows to make a more resistant and high quality chemical paste. (BANQ,1)

Do you work directly with the artists?

Yes, we collaborate one on one with each of the artists listed on Sur Ton Mur. No intermediary person here! All available editions on our website are exclusively sold at Sur Ton Mur.

⇢ Can I order other sizes than those listed here?

We may be able to specially order a different size for you, depending on the size of the original illustration. Also, if you would like an artwork from one of our collaborator's artists that isn't part of our current collection, we can also manage to print it, depending on the original settings of the concerned image. Please send us a message to find out more.

⇢ How does it work for framing?

You can, of course, buy one or several art pieces without a frame through our website.

However, for those who would like a frame, we have a selection of frames fabricated by our local artisan.

The frames we offer are designed and entirely assembled by hand in Montreal, from raw pieces of wood carefully picked. These items are made thanks to delicate fingers driven by a sincere passion of wood!

We offer 3 types of frames :

  •  Magnetic frame
  • Slim frame (a glass pane, artwork, non acid support, wooden structure, kraft paper at the back)
  • Shadow box (a glass pane, spacing, artwork, non acid support, wooden structure, kraft paper at the back) *

*To be noted : the shadow box is one of the best way to preserve an art piece.

We also offer 4 types of colours :

  • Natural maple with a whitewash finish
  • Natural maple
  • Torrefied ash
  • Black (dyed ash)

Standard formats are multiple, but we can also do customized framing for art pieces that have particular formats or for special orders.

A customization tool will soon be accessible on our website. It will allow you to choose which frame you desire before completing your order.

It takes about one week to process your order. If you order has to be treated rapidly, we invite you to write to us. It will be a pleasure for us to guide you through the procedures of buying a beautiful piece of art!
